FAQs

Window & Door Screen Repair

What are window and door screens made of?

Most screens are made from fiberglass, aluminum, stainless steel, nylon, or specialty materials like solar or pet-resistant mesh. Fiberglass is the most common due to its flexibility and affordability.

How long do screens typically last?

With normal use, fiberglass screens last about 10–15 years. Aluminum screens may last longer but can dent or crease more easily. Longevity also depends on climate and exposure.

What’s the difference between standard mesh and pet-resistant screens?

Pet-resistant screens are made of a thicker, more durable material (often vinyl-coated nylon) that resists tears and scratches from pets. Standard mesh is made from fiberglass coated with plastic or vinyl.

Do screens come in different colors or styles?

Yes. Common mesh colors include black and grey for standard mesh. Specialty screens come in various weaves and tints for solar protection or privacy.

How do I clean my window or door screens?

We recommend cleaning them with a screen cleaning machine for very dirty screens and we use Winsol screen cleaner and sealer to protect the screens from UV rays. Just follow the directions on the bottle for best results. We can also do that for you just let us know.

What is the purpose of a window or door screen?

Screens allow fresh air to enter while keeping out insects, debris, and sometimes UV rays or pets (depending on screen type).

Can screens be repaired, or do they need to be replaced?

Small holes or tears can occur and we replace the entire mesh. We do not recommend patching the holes because that will not resolve the issue completely. If the damage is extensive or the frame is bent, replacing the screen might be the best option.

Can window screens help reduce energy bills?

Yes—solar screens or tightly woven screens can reduce heat gain by blocking sunlight, helping your home stay cooler and lowering A/C costs.

Can screens be custom-made for any window or door?

Absolutely. We can custom-build or retrofit screens for almost any size window or door, not including arched windows.

Are retractable screens a good option?

No, we have not had a good experience with retractable screen doors and we recommend motorized screens or swinging screen doors.

Does Solar Screens fix turf burn?

Yes! Solar screens eliminate the glare from the glass and will stop turf burn!

At first glance, it might seem like your solar panels are clean. But the distance and angle in which you are looking can be deceiving. A closer inspection will show the buildup that needs to be cleaned, including dust, dirt, bird droppings, etc.

What cleaning products and tools do you use to clean solar panels?

There are several considerations to protect your solar panels during the cleaning process. For example, using professional cleaning solutions helps to remove dirt and grime. Then, we rinse the panels thoroughly with pure water (0 TDS) to leave you with a spot-free finish.
